–Mission–

To promote data literacy and data journalism in Pakistan, empowering journalists with the investigative and analytical skills needed to tell impactful, evidence-based stories.

–About–

Launched in 2015, Data Stories is Pakistan’s first and only data journalism specific initiative. The ever growing availability of data comes both with opportunities and challenges. The opportunities are unlimited in terms of taking advantage of data to play an effective role as a journalist while challenges, we believe, are few and the most pertinent is the understanding of data.

–Our Founder–

Khalid Khattak, an award-winning journalist based in Lahore, Pakistan, is the founder of Data Stories. With almost 20 years of experience, Khalid currently works as a Senior Staff Reporter at The News International. He is a 2013 Daniel Pearl Fellow and has contributed to leading U.S. publications such as The Wall Street Journal (Washington DC Bureau) and the Duluth News Tribune in Minnesota.

Khalid has also taught journalism as visiting faculty at the Institute of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab, and is an active member of Pakistan’s media landscape through his roles at the Lahore Press Club and the Punjab Union of Journalists.

In recent years, Khalid has expanded his expertise by learning coding and data analysis, particularly using the R programming language to work with datasets and uncover hidden patterns in text and numbers.

Khalid has spoken as a data journalism speaker/trainer at multiple Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) conferences and contributed to various international publications and websites.
