During the last seven days the term “Panama Papers” remained the most popular search in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) of Pakistan, followed by Punjab province and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on search engine giant Google.
The search volume index of Google shows that interest over time vis-à-vis the term was highest on the day Supreme Court of Pakistan gave its verdict in the case i.e., April 20, 2017.
The least interest vis-à-vis the search was witnessed from Balochistan. Interestingly among cities the most searches were recorded from Faisalabad (Punjab) followed by Peshawar (Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa) and federal capital, Islamabad. (Click on Subregion to know search index from cities.
The search for a particular term on Google Trends tool shows popularity of the term over time in ‘nearly real time’. According to Google, it normalizes and presents the data about a particular trend on a scale from 0-100.
The data about the term “Panama Papers” was presented on 100 on that scale on April 20, 2017 at 2:00pm when the apex court gave its verdict.
The possible reasons behind the popularity of this term could be interest of people in these regions/areas. Nonetheless, issues related to internet penetration couldn’t be ruled out either which means areas/ regions where people have easy and more access to internet might have influenced this search.
